"The Great Earth Mother" by Norval Morrisseau - Used with permission of the Estate of Norval Morrisseau

Hildegard of Bingen once said that "God has arranged everything in the universe, in consideration of everything else." Our United Church crest displays the words of the Mohawk language AKWE NIA'TETEWA:NEREN, translated as "all my relations", and the Latin UT OMNES UNUM SINT, meaning "that all may be one." Embedded within our faith tradition is the affirmation that there is unity within diversity. God's Creation is an ecosystem, not a monoculture. We are to paint with a full pallet of colour and compose with all the notes of the scale. In this, our Earth Day service, we will honour Creation in story, song and prayer, bless some new trees for our gardens, and hear how beauty can bring the healing we so desperately seek for ourselves and the earth.
