We long to feel we are in a relationship with God. Where did that longing originate? What are the details of this “Covenant Relationship”? Who says? There are many disagreements and many options down the ages. What is the “heart of the deal”?

This Sunday Met celebrates its anniversary and the 90th anniversary of Metropolitan Silver Band's association with Met. Our preacher this Sunday is the Reverend Dr G. Malcolm Sinclair, Met's Minister Emeritus. Malcolm served as Met's Senior Minister from 1988 to 2019.

(Don't forget that clocks "fall back" this Saturday night.)

  • Band Prelude: Cornet Carillon (Ronald Binge), Share My Yoke (Joy Webb, arr. Ivor Bosanko), Prelude on Three Welsh Hymn Tunes (Ralph Vaughn Williams)
  • Readings: Ruth 1:1-18, Psalm 146, Mark 12:28-34
  • Sermon: "The Heart of the Deal" (The Reverend Dr G. Malcolm Sinclair)
  • Anthems: Justorum anime (C.V. Stanford), Behold, the Tabernacle of God (William H. Harris)
  • Band Offertory: Every Blessing (Marcus Venables)
  • Band Postlude: Amazing Grace (arr. William Gordon)

This Sunday's Offertory (played by the Metropolitan Silver Band) is a very special work indeed! Last spring Melvin and Wendy Hurst very kindly commissioned a work for the Band in celebration of our 90th anniversary and in remembrance of Leonard Vickers. We are delighted to present its world premiere on Sunday for Metropolitan's Anniversary. It was written by Canadian composer Marcus Venables who has become one of the premier composers of brass band music in North America. Marcus chose Nettleton, the tune for Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing as the foundation of this rich and exciting Festival Arrangement. He has, in his words, created a piece with a "sense of occasion and celebration" that uses the hymn tune in various ways as it builds to a glorious finale. We know you will agree that it is a wonderful piece and we do indeed hold every blessing in our community at Metropolitan.
