The Metropolitan Silver Band was founded in 1931 and has been associated with Metropolitan United Church since 1934. The only brass band in the United Church of Canada, the Metropolitan Silver Band is a vital part of our music ministry. Our 28 member brass band is a special ensemble as it utilizes only the instruments of the brass and percussion families, in the traditional English brass band style.
Under the baton of our Music Director Fran Harvey, the Silver Band participates in worship services seven times a year and the annual Deck the Halls Christmas concert with organist Dr. Jonathan Oldengarm.
Our concert and service schedule of 15 - 20 performances a year also includes a variety of churches and other concert venues in the Greater Toronto Area and beyond.
Our repertoire includes classics, marches, the music of the great musicals, sacred music, popular selections, and contemporary works written and arranged for brass band. The band has taken several tours through Ontario, one to the Maritimes and has played several combined concerts with brass bands in New York State and Michigan.
