A number of years ago, there was a popular book by Pierre Berton called The Comfortable Pew. Berton was asked by the Anglicans in the mid-1960s to write a report on the state of the church and the result was this book. It was a scathing report of the church as being irrelevant to society. It was anything but a comfortable read. On Sunday, we will reclaim that pew as we begin this Lenten season. This Sunday's sermon from The Rev. Karen Bowles is titled (you guessed it) "The Comfortable Pew."
