In this week's service we celebrate 100 years of our beloved and newly refurbished carillon. Rev. Meyers's sermon "A Great Way Off" will intertwine the history and ministry of the carillon with Jesus's healing narrative in Luke 17, where the outsider is lifted up as an exemplar of the faith.
- Prelude: Various (Duddy; Wesley; Sowerby)
- Readings: Psalm 66:1-12; 2 Timothy 2:8-15; Luke 17:11-19
- Sermon: “A Great Way Off" (The Rev. Jason Meyers)
- Anthems:
- Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace (Wesley)
- Rejoice in the Lord alway (Purcell)
- Offertory Solo: Schlage doch, gewünschte Stunde, BWV 53
(formerly attr. to J.S. Bach)
- Postlude: Ring out, wild bells! (Hebble)
Following the service, you are invited to proceed to the front steps of the church for a brief ceremony to rededicate our century-old carillon. A short recital by guest artist Margaret Pan will follow, including a newly-commissioned composition for this important occasion. You can read notes about the program and ceremony here. |
