Transfiguration Sunday

For the 11:00 a.m. service on Sunday, the Rev. Dr. G. Malcolm Sinclair is calling his sermon “Not Dying, but Seeing.”

“Clarity and energy are the two great gifts we are given as we journey into Lent. God as Whirlwind is a powerful expression of our resources and participation as faith faces the fury of entrenchment in this challenging season.”

For the prelude Dr. Patricia Wright will play “Jesu Dulcis-Verbum Supernum,” “Ave Maria,” and “Adoro Te” from Five Liturgical Inventions for Organ by Victor Togni, and All Glory Be to God on High by Johann Sebastian Bach. For the postlude, she will play “Alleluias” from Five Liturgical Inventions for Organ by Togni. At the Offertory, the Metropolitan Handbell Choir will play Go Not Far From Me, O God by Niccolò Zingarelli, arranged by Martha Lynn Thompson. The Metropolitan Choristers will sing Donna Tokidemo (Anytime and Anywhere) by Junko Takahashi and Shinichi Takanami. Finally, the Metropolitan Choir will sing Christ, Whose Glory Fills the Skies by Keith Bissell and O Nata Lux de Lumine by Morten Lauridsen. The last piece in the carillon prelude played by Roy Lee will be How Good, Lord, to Be Here (hymn tune Carlisle), arranged by Beverly Buchanan.

The Bible readings are 2 Kings 2:1-12 (Elijah ascends to Heaven), 2 Corinthians 4:3-6 (the Glory of God and the Gospel), and Mark 9:2-9 (the Transfiguration).
