Ninth Sunday after Pentecost
For the 11:00 a.m. service on Sunday, The Rev. Dr. John Joseph Mastandrea is calling his sermon, “A Great Light: House Builder." “The text opens with the completion of a house for the king and the promise and legacy for future generations; that the dividing walls of hostility will be broken down when we become the living promise of compassion for Christ.”
For the organ prelude, Dr. Patricia Wright will play Prelude and Fugue in C Minor by J.S. Bach, and Grant Campbell will play “Allemande” from Partita No.2 in D Minor for unaccompanied violin by J.S. Bach. The organ postlude play by Dr. Patricia Wright will be Trumpet Tune by David German. The Offertory played by violinist Grant Campbell will be “Andante Cantabile” from Violin Concerto No.4 in D Major by W.A. Mozart. The hymns are No.333 (Love Divine, All Loves Excelling), No.273 (The King of Love My Shepherd Is) and No.606 (In Christ There Is No East or West). The last piece of the carillon prelude played by Roy Lee will be Robin, an Elizabeth Lute Song, arranged by David Hunsberger.
The Bible readings are 2 Samuel 7:1-14a, (David is not the one to build God’s house), Ephesians 2:11-22 (You are holy citizens, members of God’s household), Mark 6:30-34, 53-56 (Jesus teaches from a boat and heals the sick).
