Christmas Day
For the 11:00 a.m. service on Sunday, The Rev. Dr. G. Malcolm Sinclair is calling his sermon “Day of Delight.” “What is the delight of this day? For most there is family and festivities, but for some there is loneliness and sadness. Beneath all these there is a gift of measureless worth that the great God has given and is giving to every one of us.”
For the organ prelude, Dr. Patricia Wright will play settings by both J. S. Bach and Dieterich Buxtehude of In Dulci Jubilo, The Sussex Carol by Dale Wood, and Away in a Manger by June Nixon. The postlude will be God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen by Wilbur Held. At the Offertory, Dr. Wright will play Noël sur les Flutes by Louis-Claude Daquin. The hymns will be No.48 (Hark! The Herald Angels Sing), one verse of No.38 (Angels We Have Heard on High), No.74 (What Child is This), one verse of No.55 (In the Bleak Midwinter), and No.59 (Joy to the World).
The final piece in the carillon prelude played by Roy Lee will be O Come, All Ye Faithful, setting by Ronald Barnes. The Bible readings are Isaiah 52:7-10 (let Zion rejoice), Hebrews 1:1-4 (God has spoken by His Son), and John 1:1-14 (the Word became flesh).
