Jesus used parables to open his listeners to universal truths, but he would do so in a hyper-local way, leaning heavily on local knowledge and customs. Likewise, he would reveal deep mysteries by speaking of ordinary objects and everyday situations known well to his audience. In this week’s sermon "The Paradox of Parables", Rev. Meyers explores what Jesus was saying about the kingdom of God by describing it as a mustard seed - not a cedar seed or a cabbage seed, but a mustard seed.
